I have had my floriblog news service running for about a week now. From time to time I like to look in on the Twitter account and follow new followers as well as look in on the @ connect link to see what is new there.

Today I noticed that @visitlauderdale had favorited one of my tweets. I was curious so I visited the tweet and it was this fantastic story about a Ft Lauderdale tweeter who takes amazing sunrise photos and puts them up on twitter.

Building this awesome news machine has taught me a lot of things, but I never expected it would actually teach me that my work can truly pass on a little sunshine and brighten someones day.

I hope this continues. There are a lot of headlines I would rather not read but this one is such a joy that I will follow and keep it.

I just made VaNewsLive.com and it has a twitter account. I cant wait to get a similar experience there.

George Zimmerman was taken into custody Wednesday on second-degree murder charges in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

Special prosecutor Angela Corey made the announcement at a news conference in Jacksonville.  Corey said Zimmerman turned himself in to authorities but wouldn’t say where he is.

Second degree murder cariesthe possibility of life in prision.

The new Florida News system I have built on floriblog is truly amazing.It has only been online for three days. but it already pulls news from 85 sources at the rate of almost 1000 articles a day, with more to be added soon. What makes this system truly unique and functional is that all stories are collected and placed in a database where they can be rendered in an orderly way.

Because they are put into the database they can be searched. I have also written code to prevent duplicate titles from being indexed. So every one of the 1000 daily articles is unique in some way. This prevents articles that are distributed to multiple channels from showing up several times.

The real beauty is in the scripting that collects and stores the data. Using a method called cron, the feeds are crawled and indexed at a full cycle rate of just 4 minutes. 2 scripts run at alternating 2 minute cycles. Every minute about 25 feeds are visited and indexed into the database. A complete cycle occurs within 4 minutes.

In laymens terms that means that any story posted by any news-feed will be live on this website within 4 minutes! The average or median time is 2 minutes!  Try visiting 85 news-feeds and getting the latest story or multiple unique stories of the same event on your own and see how long that takes!

The news ticker (like the one on the right of the front page) has the most recent stories. There is no faster, more comprehensive or thorough system That I am aware of anywhere.
